SVBONY SV205 8MP USB 3.0 Astronomy Camera (1.25")

The SVBONY SV205 is a USB 3.0 electronic eyepiece camera designed primarily for lunar and planetary astrophotography. It is well suited to imaging bright targets such as the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and double stars, and can also be used for observing brighter deep-sky objects under favourable conditions.

With a standard 1.25" nosepiece, the SV205 installs directly into most telescope focusers, replacing a traditional eyepiece. Live viewing, video capture, and image recording are carried out via a connected computer using compatible astronomy software.

Sensor & Imaging Performance

The SV205 is based on the Sony IMX415 stacked CMOS sensor, offering high sensitivity and low noise performance in a compact format. To address pixel vignetting and colour uniformity issues present in earlier versions, the current SV205 uses a refined active sensor area with an effective resolution of approximately 7.05 megapixels (3264 × 2160).

  • Sensor: Sony IMX415 CMOS
  • Sensor size: 1/2.8"
  • Effective resolution: 3264 × 2160 (approx. 7.05 MP)
  • Pixel size: 1.45 µm × 1.45 µm

The IMX415 uses Sony’s stacked CMOS architecture to deliver improved sensitivity and reduced read noise, making it particularly suitable for high-frame-rate planetary and lunar imaging where fine detail is critical.

Camera Interface

The SV205 features a USB 3.0 interface to support fast data transfer and smooth video capture when imaging planets or the lunar surface. A stable USB 3.0 connection is recommended to achieve the best performance.

System Requirements

  • Desktop PC: Intel Core i5 (4th generation or newer), minimum 4 GB RAM
  • Laptop: Intel Core i5 (6th generation or newer), minimum 8 GB RAM

Usage Notes

  • The SV205 is designed to be used directly in a telescope focuser and is not recommended for use behind a visual eyepiece without an appropriate eyepiece projection adapter.
  • Best results are achieved when used with refractor or reflector telescopes and accurate focusing.
  • For live viewing and image capture, compatible software such as SharpCap should be installed on the connected computer.
  • Solar imaging is possible only when a proper full-aperture solar filter is fitted to the telescope.
