Astronomik OIII 12nm CCD MaxFR 50mm Filter – Deep Sky Imaging

MaxFR Astronomik photographic narrowband-emission line filters are optimized for fast optical systems, such as Celestron’s RASA and Takahashi Epsilon Astrographs. These filters are designed for high-performance deep-sky imaging and are ideal for capturing the three most important emission lines: oxygen (OIII), hydrogen (H-alpha), and sulfur (SII). Available in both 12nm and 6nm bandwidth options, the MaxFR filters offer unmatched versatility for astrophotography.

Highest Transmission Performance:

The Astronomik MaxFR filters utilize MFR coating technology, providing outstanding out-of-band blocking across a broad range of wavelengths, from UV to IR. This results in extremely high contrast, minimized stray light, no halos, and razor-sharp stars. With these filters, you’ll capture high-quality data, perfect for processing into stunning deep-sky images.

Key Features:

  • For 12nm filters: Usable from f/1.7 to f/8 with around 85% transmission at f/1.4.
  • For 6nm filters: Usable from f/2.2 to f/8 with approximately 90% transmission at f/2.
  • Optimal performance for OIII, H-alpha, and SII emission lines.
  • Blocks unwanted light from sources such as H-alpha and nitrogen.
  • Excellent for imaging from light-polluted areas, enabling clearer and deeper observations of nebulae and planetary structures.

Imaging Benefits:

Narrowband-emission line filters are essential when observing from light-polluted sites. An H-alpha filter is often the first step for astrophotography, allowing deep and high-contrast imaging of nebulae, even under challenging conditions like full moonlight. The OIII filter expands imaging possibilities, revealing greenish-blue structures such as planetary nebulae and star-forming regions. The SII filter completes the set, enabling HSO imaging like that from the Hubble Space Telescope.

Astronomik MFR Narrowband-Emission Line Filters:

  • Made with a high-quality substrate: stress-free, optically polished glass.
  • Parfocal design: ensures no focal plane shift when switching filters.
  • Anti-reflection coating: Up to 170 layers, improving durability and performance.
  • Scratch-resistant, humidity-proof, and age-resistant.
  • Available in various sizes, including 1.25” and 50mm x 50mm square filters.
  • 10-year guarantee: long-lasting performance with no degradation over time.

Enhance Your Astrophotography:

With Astronomik’s MaxFR narrowband filters, you’ll unlock incredible deep-sky imaging possibilities. These filters are designed for precision and durability, ensuring top-quality data for processing and creating breathtaking final images.

Choosing the Right Filter:

  • 12nm Filters: Ideal for DSLR cameras and general-use applications.
  • 6nm Filters: Best for extreme light pollution conditions and low dark-current cameras, offering maximum contrast and reduced star interference.

Exposure Time Considerations:

With high transmission rates, you can expose for longer if desired, capturing even fainter structures. Although not required, longer exposures with narrowband filters offer greater opportunities for detailed imaging by blocking unwanted wavelengths.

Selection Options:

Choose the appropriate filter size and bandwidth for your setup, and start enhancing your astrophotography today.
