Description

SVBONY SV240 2″ Multi-Narrowband NIR Light Pollution Filter

The SVBONY SV240 is a 2″ multi-narrowband filter designed specifically for urban and suburban astrophotography. It selectively isolates key emission lines including H-Alpha, OIII, and H-Beta while strongly suppressing artificial light pollution. Unlike traditional narrowband systems, the SV240 is optimised for use with colour cameras, allowing detailed deep-sky imaging without the need to switch to a monochrome setup.

Multi-Narrowband Design for Urban Imaging

The SV240 uses a multi-bandpass transmission profile to isolate H-Alpha, OIII, and H-Beta emission while blocking common urban light pollution bands. This enables astrophotography from light-polluted locations without the need to travel to darker sites, improving efficiency and convenience.

Cut-Off Depth ≥ OD4

With an out-of-band blocking level of OD4 or greater, the filter effectively suppresses background sky glow and artificial lighting. This improves contrast and signal-to-noise ratio when imaging galaxies, reflection nebulae, emission nebulae, and star clusters from urban environments.

Designed for Heavy Light Pollution (Up to Bortle 8)

The multi-layer coating structure provides strong resistance to severe light pollution, making the SV240 suitable for use in heavily light-polluted areas (up to Bortle 8). This allows consistent imaging results across different urban locations while reducing the impact of artificial lighting.

Wide Wavelength Coverage with NIR Support

The SV240 offers broad wavelength coverage from approximately 300 nm to 1100 nm, while blocking near-infrared light pollution beyond this range. High transmission in the near-infrared (NIR) region takes advantage of the strong quantum efficiency of modern colour sensors, helping improve overall signal capture and contrast.

Average Transmission > 90%

High average transmission across the passbands ensures efficient light throughput, allowing shorter total integration times while maintaining good colour balance and detail in broadband deep-sky targets.

SV240 filter technical performance and nebula imaging results

Suitable for a Wide Range of Targets

The spectral design supports imaging of most galaxies, reflection nebulae, emission nebulae, and star clusters. Its versatility makes the SV240 a practical all-in-one solution for colour astrophotography systems operating under light-polluted skies.

Optimised for Modern Colour Cameras

By combining visible-band and near-infrared transmission, the SV240 improves signal-to-noise ratio while maintaining manageable colour balance during post-processing. This makes it particularly well suited to modern colour sensors with strong NIR response, without requiring dedicated narrowband filter sets.
